25日22時半竹芝発のさるびあ丸にて出航。さっき食べたウェンディーズのハンバーガーがおなかにずっしりと留まっている。だんだん小さくなっていく竹芝。船から会社が見えるのがなんともいえない気持ちだけど、暗い海の上で、東京タワーや日の出桟橋やいつも見えているビルが遠ざかっていくのを見ていると、寂寥感に襲われぞわぞわしてくる。
しばらくデッキで東京湾を眺めてから船室に戻る。ちょっと奮発して特2等にしたので、2段ベッドなのです。周りの席はけっこう空いている。おがまると違って、ベッドには洋服掛けも、枕元の灯りもなし。本を読めない。しかたがないのでiPodでキリンジのロマンティック街道を聴きながら眠りに就く。
3時半に一度目が覚めて、顔を洗ってまた寝る。5時ごろ、三宅島に到着。さらにウトウトして5時半ごろ起床。身支度をして、デッキをひとまわり。御蔵島が間近に見える。
6時5分、御蔵島到着。条件付出航だったけど無事に着いたよ。小雨が降る中、民宿のお迎えが来ておらず、くるくる回っていたら、別の宿の人が送ってくれた。親切......。出鼻をくじかれた感があったけど、「どうしたんでしょうねぇ、でも大丈夫ですよ」と云われ、まあ大丈夫だろう、という気がしてくる。
民宿に着いたら、どうやら27日からの宿泊だと思っていたらしい。でも大丈夫だった。よかった。さっそく8時半にイルカ船のお迎えが来ることになり。とりあえずソファのある休憩所に通され、船に乗る前に買っておいたおにぎりと豚汁で朝食にする。お部屋を用意してくれたので、座布団3枚を横に並べてしばし休憩。7時43分現在、外は土砂降り。
8時半、今日は宿の船が出ないので、別の船であるおおいぬ座号(仮)に同乗させてもらう。イルカ研究家のブロンド美女とその仲間たちご一行様です。船のTちゃんによると、ここ3日くらいは気持ち悪いくらい凪らしい。波はほとんどなく、船酔いの心配もなさそう。
さて、海に出てそれほど経たないうちにイルカさんたちに遭遇。トビウオを追いかけるイルカたち。最初に出会ったのは6頭くらいの群れ。まんまるの痛々しい傷があるイルカが間近に寄ってきて、あまりの迫力にびっくりしてしまう。2度目は、2〜3頭のイルカ。あっという間にどこかへ行ってしまったけど、小さい魚の大きな群れが翻るたびにキラキラ光を反射して泳いでいて、うっとりと見惚れてしまう。あとから訊いたら、これはキビナゴらしい。3度目は、20頭くらいの大きな群れ。小さくてつるつるした赤ちゃんイルカを連れたお母さんイルカもいる。赤ちゃんが居るのに近くまで来てくれた。おおおおおう。それから、あたたかくてきれいな海で、15頭くらいと遭遇。場所によって温度とか透明度とか全然違うのね。というかんじで、島を一周するあいだ、ずーっと海は穏やかで、でもさすがにウエットなしで水に入ったり出たりしていると体が冷えてガクガクしてきました。メガネ男子Jスティンが「ヘンナあめりかノかぷちーの、飲ミマスカ?」と言って温かい飲み物をくれたので、すごくすごく温かくておいしくて生き返るようでした。
イルカのほかには、5メートルくらい本当に空を飛ぶトビウオ、キラキラ光るキビナゴの群れ、黄色に黒の縞々の熱帯魚みたいな魚、黒い平べったい魚、ウミガメなどを見る。
今回、AいちゃんにIXY DIGITAL 500と防水ケースを、YーへいさんにFROGEYEをお借りして、万全の態勢で水中撮影に臨んだのですが、FROGEYEは水中だと自動的にフラッシュが発光してしまい、イルカと泳ぐときはフラッシュ禁止なので使えず、主にIXYで撮影したのでした。でもね、カメラ持たずに泳いでるときのほうが、イルカとの交流に集中できてよかったみたい。
